How is the insert for a biofireplace built?

The burner for the biofireplace is made of thick sheet metal resistant to high temperatures. First of all, it should be completely airtight. Remember that bioethanol is a flammable substance, therefore you should pay particular attention to safety when using a bio-fireplace. The sheet metal housing is additionally reinforced with paint applied by means of powder coating.

The inside of the cartridge should be lined with a thick layer of absorbent material that absorbs bioethanol. This prevents the fuel from accidentally spilling. Such filters are usually made of an aluminosilicate that is resistant to very high temperatures.

The bio-fireplace insert in the upper part consists of a metal mesh that protects the absorbent insert. Thanks to this, the aluminosilicate layer is stable and does not move. There is a metal grille above the net with regularly cut holes. It is thanks to her that bioethanol is burned regularly. Remember that the liquid itself does not burn, but the vapor that rises from it. Therefore, it is important that they diverge as regularly as possible.

Each biofireplace burner is also equipped with a protection in the form of a sliding plate, mounted on a masking frame. With its help, you can smoothly adjust the intensity of the flame, limiting the amount of oxygen access, and also quickly cut off its supply, if necessary.

It is worth knowing how the biofireplace insert is built in order to use it properly. One of the most popular mistakes of beginners is adding fuel while the fireplace is still burning or refilling the fireplace insert heated by e.g. sun rays. In this way, it is easy to lose control of the intensity of combustion. Remember that bioethanol should only be topped up when the device is cold.

Manual insert for a biofireplace or a remotely controlled burner?

In stores specializing in the sale of ecological heating elements, you will find both manually regulated and controlled by means of built-in electronics. The latter are more advanced, but also more expensive.

Manual burners

Manual burner for a bio-fireplace uses a handle with which you can adjust the position of the cover, and thus the intensity of the flame.

In this type of models, you always have to control the amount of biofuel used by yourself so as not to overflow the refill. The very lighting up is like starting a classic gas stove. Simply place an igniter, lighter or match against the inlet and the bioethanol vapor will ignite.

An automatic burner for a biofireplace is much more convenient to use, and its operation is based on electronics mounted inside the housing. Such a device is controlled with a remote control using radio waves, and in the case of the latest generation, also with the use of a Bluetooth interface. The latter method is becoming more and more popular as it allows you to use a dedicated application and run the device using a smartphone or tablet.

Electric burners

Unlike classic cartridges, these remotely operating cartridges can be equipped with one or more sensors that control the key operating parameters of the device. In addition to simply switching the burner on or off, you can count on such functions as:

• measurement of the biofuel level in the tank, preventing the insert from overflowing,
• monitoring the amount of biofuel delivered during combustion with a pump,
• monitoring the correct operation of all components,
• checking the opening of the tank inlet.

Some models can even record the concentration of carbon dioxide in the room or the leakage of the structure. Thanks to this protection, you can leave the biofireplace turned on without fear when there are small children or the elderly in the house. The device will take care of itself and, if necessary, turn off and refuse to restart until the detected irregularities are removed.

Remember that an electric fireplace insert must be connected to the mains. Therefore, its portability may be limited by the availability of free sockets. Also consider the merits of mounting such equipment in the bathroom. While the manual insert simply goes out, the electric burner can cause a short circuit, dangerous to the life or health of the user.

How to safely fill an insert into a biofireplace?

Always use the special funnel attached to the device to refill the cartridge. Never pour fuel directly from a canister, unless it is equipped with a dispenser (similar to the one that mounts on washer fluid containers). When pouring the substance in an uncontrolled manner, it is not only easy to spill it around, but also to pour over the bio-fireplace, which should ultimately be filled to about 2/3 of its volume.

Don't worry that bioethanol burns with a blue flame for the first few minutes. It is completely natural and results from the rising air temperature. You will notice that after a while the flame takes on a classic yellow-red color. If you want, you can add a few drops of fragrance oil to the bioethanol. It is perfectly safe and the fuel itself, if it is well cleaned, should not have any smell of its own.
